25th Anniversary Party

The Cake

As befits the origins of the Society, and at the kind invitation of President Janie Martin, over 70 members and guests enjoyed the Society's 25th Anniversary celebrations at The Brand on Sunday, 19 June 2011. Over a convivial lunchtime of wine and canapés many a story was remembered and retold.

Dick cuts the cake

Here our Chairman, Dick Howard, cuts the Anniversary cake, made by Dominic North. He spoke of the welcome continuity of the membership and in particular the Committee, providing such a wonderful reservoir of knowledge and depth of understanding about all the facets of Charnwood Forest. He proposed a toast to "The Friends of Charnwood Forest for a successful next 25 years".

Speech

Peter Bertram, a founder member of the Society, and first Chairman, recounted the events leading up to the formation of The Friends of Charnwood Forest on 8th April 1986 at Oaks in Charnwood Village Hall. He drew attention to some of the many highlights shown in the archives on display. Sir Andrew Martin was the first President, followed by Lady Martin, and more recently Janie Martin.

Thanks were expressed to Janie and Robert Martin for hosting the event, to Anne King (Gregory Blain Catering) and her staff for the super canapés and to all the members of the Society who had helped to organise the celebrations. It was a most enjoyable party and bodes well for the future of the Friends of Charnwood Forest.
